Under the Weather

I have come down with one of my infamous colds over the last few days.  Not sure if it's the aftermath of the flu shot I got at work or the weather changing or perhaps it was stampeding through New York City during the snowstorm last weekend while hosting some out of town friends for the weekend.  Either way, I have probably been through every cold remedy there is: Mucinex, Comtrex, Nedi-Pot, Lotion Infused tissues, Zinc lozenges, miso soup, grapefruit, Vitamin C supplements, Airborne supplements, an overnight humidifier, sleeping for hours, a steamy long shower, matzah ball soup, refusing to go to my sister's house to help out with my four nephews, etc.  This is what I have learned: a cold lasts as long as it wants to last. You can do all these things or you can do nothing.  If you're lucky, these things will cut down on the number of days you feel like sticking your head under the covers and never coming out.  I wish there was a pill you could take to knock yourself out from the onset of symptoms through the last day of hacking up all sorts of stuff.  Pleasant, I know.  In any event, it's the season for colds and flu.  Wash your hands often and go get your flu shots!

So what's happened since my cold kicked in?  Let's see.  I'm not positive but I'm pretty sure Kim Kardashian filed for divorce.  This does not surprise me, but what is surprising is how much information is being plastered on every website, news show, magazine etc.  My Twitter and Facebook feeds have been flooded with information concerning every detail related to the divorce.  What Khloe thinks (who cares), what Kourtney thinks (who cares), etc., etc.  I loved that Kendall Kardashian, on the day it was announced her big sis was filing for divorce, was tweeting how stressed she was because she didn't have a Halloween costume and asked for suggestions.  I very much resisted tweeting her back that she should dress up as a Kardashian sister concerned that Kim's filing for divorce.  Kendall is all of 16?  Actually, today is her birthday.  As a birthday gift to her, I'll say no more.  There is so much information around this divorce, whether the marriage was a sham or real, what Kim's doing with the wedding gifts, the ring, how she almost called off the wedding - this divorce will be the greatest thing to happen to the Kardashian franchise since the wedding.  They are playing Kim's wedding continuously, and viewership is at an all time high.  If you have absolutely nothing to do, it may be worth a watch.  I haven't seen it yet, but it makes for great gym work out entertainment.

What else has happened in the past week?  Jessica Simpson confirmed she's pregnant.  Ah, so she didn't swallow a watermelon whole.  This is also not surprising news.

In Bach related news, DeAnna Pappas and Michael Stagliano's brother, Stephen, are back from their honeymoon in Belize.  Rumor has that part of Ben the Winemaker's season will take place in Belize, and it wouldn't shock me if there happens to be a run in with Ben and DeAnna/Stephen.  Wonder if ABC picked up the tab for DeAnna's honeymoon in exchange for a day of honeymoon filming and some words of wisdom for Bachelor Ben.   DeAnna's wedding photos are now in Us Weekly Magazine if you have any interest...too bad Kim's divorce is hogging the cover of every magazine this week, or perhaps DeAnna's wedding gown might have gotten more prominence.

ABC announced yesterday that Ben's season will start on January 2nd.  Not sure why this is news since it was already revealed on the finale of Bachelor Pad 2 that January 2nd would be the start Ben's season.   Some other Bach news: JP Rosenbaum and Ashley Herbert are attending the Islanders' ice hockey game against the Washington Capitals this Saturday night, November 5th, in Long Island, NY.  If you happen to be attending the game, you can win a chance to meet JP and Ash on the ice during half time.  Not sure how many ice hockey fans would even be willing to admit they watch Bachelor (besides The Husband), so this could be a failed publicity event.

Dr. Stork and his fiance Dr. Charlotte Brown
One of the original friends that I used to watch The Bachelor with when it first came out shared some exciting news with me.  She attended a party last weekend where Dr. Travis Stork, former Bachelor, was present.  Not only that, she actually had a long conversation with him and was happy to report that he's a very down to earth and nice person.  Dr. Stork, as you may know, is currently engaged to another doctor and has his own TV show which is doctor related.  Good for him.  Dr. Stork was one of my favorite bachelors.  My friend resisted the temptation of getting a photo with Dr. Stork.  She said several women at the party were much more shameless and requested photos with him.  He gladly obliged, but my friend had enough class to resist.

In other news, the New York City marathon is this Sunday and guess who's competing??  Ryan Sutter - first winner of Trista's inaugural season of The Bachelorette.  Sweet Ryan, as you may remember, and Trista are still going strong.  Married, with two children, the firefighter is now a triathlete and currently is being featured in Gatorade's new web series, Inside Endurance.  The series follows Ryan as he prepares for triathlons, marathons and off-road races while balance work and family.  One of his latest episodes can found here:  http://bit.ly/tyur0m.  I have never felt lazier after watching something.  If you happen to be in NY, go watch the marathon.  It's one of the most inspiring events out there.  1st Avenue in Manhattan from 59th street up or along the route in Central Park are great watching spots.  Or watch on your TV.

That's about all, folks.  Am off for the rest of the week and am going to recover, do some writing and enjoy the weekend.  I hope you're doing the same.
